History of Workout in Ukraine

Surely everyone knows what a workout is. A mixture of gymnastics, acrobatics and strength exercises has won the hearts of millions of athletes around the world.

Now in Ukraine there is a fairly strong team in this sport, which has won international competitions more than once. In a relatively short period of time, athletes managed to go from simple enthusiasts to world-famous athletes. It is the history of Workout in Ukraine that will be discussed in this article.

Foundation of the StreetWorkout movement in Ukraine

As in the case of any other sport, the moment of its occurrence is the systematization of disparate exercises and the formation of a certain set of rules for competitions.

Workout in the form of performing individual exercises on horizontal bars and uneven bars has existed for a long time. Even yard competitions in Soviet times can be attributed to this type. But as a certain direction, workout was formed in the early 2000s, with the spread of high-speed Internet and the emergence of an opportunity for athletes from different countries to exchange experiences.

Initially, this sport was popular mainly among the black population of the United States, where there were no access to good gyms and the only way to keep fit was to exercise with body weight on self-built horizontal bars and parallel bars. That is why this sport was called Street Workout - street training (muscle pumping), or ghetto workout - training in the ghetto.

Gradually, disparate exercises were combined into a single complex. The Street Workout training program combines classical gymnastic elements, general strength training, as well as a number of exercises that are unique to this sport.

The founder of this movement in Ukraine is Denis Minin. There were separate followers of this sport before, but it was he who managed to unite all lovers of a healthy lifestyle and supporters of this sport into a single movement. Denis started training on the horizontal bars back in 2004, and he began to popularize the street workout around 2009. Inviting guys from nearby yards to training, as well as posting training videos on video hosting sites, after a short time he managed to form a fairly large team of adherents of the new sport.

In 2010, the first all-Ukrainian street workout championship was held. Since the organization of the event was carried out exclusively by the participants themselves, speakers from the old Zhiguli were used as sound accompaniment, and the logo of the sports club was printed on a regular printer and glued with tape to the horizontal bar pipe.

But it was this championship that became the impetus for the development of street workout in Ukraine.

The result of the rapid growth in the popularity of this sport was the holding at the end of May 2011 in Dnepropetrovsk of the international festival Workout Fest, which was attended by one of the world's best teams in this sport, Bar-Barians.

Since 2012, this movement has begun to flourish. In addition to participating in the show "Ukraine Got Talent" in January 2012, from April 21, Denis goes on a workout tour around the cities of Ukraine. For more than three months, he visited 25 cities, where he presented his sport, as well as promoted a healthy lifestyle.

Subsequently, city tours have become an annual tradition, during which various events (for example, “No Tobacco Day”) are combined with competitions of various levels.

Workout development in Ukraine

If a few years ago, workout grounds were a rarity, now characteristically located complexes of horizontal bars and bars are found on most sports grounds.

The main advantage of this sport is the principle “Each one teach one” (the closest translation is that everyone teaches someone). This means the need to popularize this movement by the athletes themselves, as well as free development of training schemes and the need to help novice athletes. Since the question of where to start is always a problem for any beginner, this approach contributes to a significant increase in the popularity of this sport and attracting new members to the movement.

An additional factor contributing to the increasing popularity of the workout is the spectacular performance of most exercises, as well as the lack of the need to use complex and expensive training equipment.

Now workout is one of the most popular informal sports. In fact, in every city there is one or more teams of "street turnstiles".

One of the most significant events in the development of this sport is the opening of the workout center "Torsion" in Kharkov. The total area of the halls is about 400 square meters, where specialized simulators are located for the development of target muscle groups of athletes, as well as complexes of horizontal bars and bars for practicing program exercises.
